Seán Magee was born in Dublin in 1943. He was educated in
CBS Westland Row and College of Tech., Kevin St. (BSc, London Uni.
Ext.). He worked as a chemistry technician in industry and
education for the past 40 years. He was always interested in
history in all its aspects - Irish, scientific and general. He is
also a collector of books and has specialised in collecting
19th century scientific material, and Irish history and
genealogy. He started to research his own family history in 1988.
He became interested in the rich sources of material available,
both historical and genealogical, in the National Library of
Ireland and National Archives of Ireland.
He has published a number of sources through the Dun Laoghaire
Genealogical Society (now the Genealogical Society of Ireland)
including:

‘Shillelagh & Ballincor South, Co. Wicklow, 1837 - A
Memorial’
‘Dublin Street Directory 1798 extracted from
Whitelaw’s Census’
‘Weavers of Prosperous, Co. Kildare, Balbriggan, Co.Dublin & Tullamore, Co. Offaly in Memorials of 1826’
and contributed to its journal.
He has also contributed to Cathair na Mart, No. 17, 1997
(‘Distress in Erris 1835’) and Familia, No. 15,
1999 (‘Robert Hyndman’s Censuses of Belfast: 1782 &
1791’).
He has privately published:

He married in 1972 to Mary, nee Gilligan. They have 3 boys,
Philip, John and Niall.
