Proceed with your sentence.6.On 10th October 1848, William Smith O'Brien was sentenced to death by hanging. The judge undertook to forward the jury's recommendation to the Lord Lieutenant. A transcript of the sentence held in the National Archives of Ireland reads:7.
Crime description High TreasonOn 14th October, The Dublin Evening Press reported that counsel for William Smith O'Brien had given notice of their intention to apply for a Writ of Error. Smith O'Brien and the other prisoners were sent to Kilmainham pending their appeal to the Queens counsel. The judgement was postponed until Hillary term January 1849, at which time it confirmed the judgement of the Clonmel court.

Recorded To be drawn on a hurdle to the place of execution on the 13th, Nov, and there hanged until he be dead, his head then to be cut off and his body to be cut into four quarters then disposed of as her Majesty shall think fit. Respited until further order on 28th October, 1848
