About Scots Origins Experts Research and Transcription Orders
Scots Origins features online ordering of transcriptions of official Scottish Birth, Marriage and Census government records via Scotland's leading researchers, Scottish Roots. Scottish Roots will locate, transcribe and email the information from the original record. In order to order a Scots Origins Experts transcription, you will need some initial information to help us find the record.

The International Genealogical Index (IGI) is an "index", i.e. only name, date, and parish. In other words someone may find reference to a John Smith marriage to Jane Henderson at Dundee in 1820. One then has to search for the full entry in the actual Old Parish Registers (OPRs) and Statutory Registers. Details found in Old Parish Registers include:

Baptisms: name of the child, date of baptism, parents' names, place or parish of residence, occupation of the father. Very rarely, a list of witnesses.

Marriages: date of marriage, or date it was contracted; names of parties; place or parishes of residence.

For records after 1855, (Statutory Registers), including the 1861 and 1871 Census records, more detailed information is available such as Parish, Street Name, Parents occupations, Parents date and place of marriage etc., which is available via a Scots Origins Experts Order. These details vary from search to search depending on how much information was collected at the time of registration.

Sighting transcriptions will be delivered within 21 days.
