Westmorland 1820 Poll Book

The Poll for Knights of the Shire to Represent the County of Westmorland. To be entitled to vote in the general election for Parliament, people (males only!) had to be a freeholder owning a house or land. This book contains lists of all of the voters, with their place of residence, place of the freehold, and the candidates for which they voted. There was no secret ballot in those days!
