The Registers at St George's Chapel, Mayfair 1740-1754

Transcripts of the registers found in the personal possession of Revd. Alexander Keith.
The chapel was a place that performed marriage ceremonies without the need for obtaining a licence or calling of banns. These were called clandestine marriages and although irregular, they were perfectly valid and binding at the time.
The Rev. Keith was appointed to officiate there and he soon began to advertise in newspapers of the advantages of marrying in his chapel.

The Religious Census of London

The results of a religious census of London, taken in two parts on Sunday October 24th 1886. The first part was an enumeration of the worshippers at the two principal services in all of the churches and chapels in London, including Non-Conformist and Catholic establishments. Whilst no names are given, just the numbers of worshippers, this book is an extremely useful tool as it mentions every Christian place of worship in the capital.

Published in the 1920's in three large volumes. A very well-named publication, with 114 chapters and over a thousand photographs covering all aspects of London and London life. Dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries the photographs provide fascinating detail concerning the London of a century ago. Great to dip into.
