By the late 1830s, the Pigot's directories were becoming more detailed. This one is particularly useful as it was published just before the first census of 1841, and is an invaluable aid to tracking down those elusive ancestors as well as giving detailed information about the towns and villages in the county.

Surrey 1851 Post Office (Kelly's) Directory

Once part of a larger volume "The Six Home Counties Post Office Directory". This is one of the earliest directories published by Kelly's, and comes with a very detailed map of the county. Surrey 1911 Kelly's Directory

A very large and comprehensive directory of the county. Each town, village and hamlet have excellent descriptions of their histories and facilities, plus directories of private residents and tradespeople. There are also county-wide directories of private residents (alphabetical) and tradespeople (classified). There are far too many individual places to list here but to help you here are the REGISTRATION districts which fall within the county. Remember that each district will include dozens of other places; Epsom, Chertsey, Guildford, Farnham, Hambledon, Dorking, Reigate, Godstone, Croydon, Kingston and Richmond. The Gentleman's Magazine Library 1731-1868, Surrey and Sussex

The original Gentleman's Magazine contained articles on a vast array of subjects, including lots of wonderful topographical pieces. In 1891 George Gomme republished all of these topograhical articles but edited and indexed them into county specific order. Each of Gomme's works contains between two and four separate counties, except for the London volumes. An absolute goldmine of information about the county, its people and its places.
